Health and Safety policy
Removal Van Ealing Health and Safety Policy
Removal Van Ealing is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, customers, contractors and members of the public. This Health and Safety policy sets out our approach to managing risks associated with removals, transport and handling of goods in and around the local area.
Our aim is to prevent injury, ill health and damage to property by identifying and controlling hazards arising from our work activities. Health and Safety is an integral part of our planning and operational processes for every move, whether domestic or commercial.
Management Responsibilities
Senior management has overall responsibility for Health and Safety within Removal Van Ealing. This includes ensuring adequate resources, equipment and training are provided so that work can be carried out safely and in accordance with relevant legislation and industry good practice.
Management will regularly review this policy, monitor its effectiveness and implement improvements where necessary. Risk assessments will be completed, recorded and updated periodically or whenever there is a significant change in work activities, vehicles, equipment or premises.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees have a duty to take reasonable care for their own Health and Safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions. Staff must cooperate fully with company procedures, attend training sessions and follow safe systems of work provided by Removal Van Ealing.
Employees are required to report all accidents, incidents, near misses, hazards, vehicle defects and unsafe conditions to their supervisor or manager as soon as possible. No employee should undertake any task for which they have not been trained or that they believe cannot be done safely.
Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices
Risk assessments are carried out for key activities including packing, loading, unloading, driving, operating lifting equipment and working at customers properties. These assessments consider hazards such as manual handling, slips and trips, traffic movements, property layout and weather conditions.
On each job, the team leader will review conditions at the collection and delivery locations and adapt working methods as required. This may include planning access routes, identifying uneven surfaces or obstacles, coordinating with customers about parking and ensuring that enough staff are assigned to heavy or awkward items.
Safe systems of work are communicated to all staff and are designed to reduce the risk of injury while maintaining efficiency and care for customers belongings.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is a significant part of removals work and is carefully managed at Removal Van Ealing. Staff receive training on safe lifting techniques, team lifting, use of handling aids and recognition of personal limits. No employee is expected to lift or carry loads that may put them or others at risk.
We provide appropriate equipment, such as sack trucks, dollies, moving straps, ramps, protective covers and other handling aids, to support staff and protect goods. All equipment is inspected regularly, and defective items are removed from service until repaired or replaced.
Where possible, handling tasks are planned to minimise carrying distances, avoid awkward movements and make best use of mechanical assistance.
Vehicle Safety and Driving Standards
Our vehicles are maintained in a safe and roadworthy condition, with regular inspections, servicing and defect reporting procedures in place. Drivers must complete pre-use checks and report any issues immediately.
Drivers are expected to comply with road traffic laws, speed limits and parking restrictions. Journey planning takes account of traffic conditions, vehicle size, loading requirements and time pressures to ensure safe and considerate driving throughout the service area.
Loads are secured in vehicles using appropriate restraints and packing methods to prevent movement, damage or instability while in transit.
Customer and Public Safety
When working at customers premises or in public areas, Removal Van Ealing staff will act with care to minimise risk to others. This includes managing access routes, keeping exits and pathways clear, controlling vehicle movements and using warning signs or barriers where necessary.
We take particular care when moving large or bulky items through shared spaces, stairwells, communal entrances and pavements. Staff are trained to communicate clearly with customers and colleagues, and to stop work immediately if they identify a serious risk.
Training, Information and Supervision
All new employees receive induction training that covers Health and Safety responsibilities, company procedures, accident reporting and safe working practices. Additional role-specific training is provided for drivers, team leaders and staff using specialist equipment.
Refresher training is arranged periodically, and whenever new equipment, vehicles or methods of work are introduced. Supervisors are responsible for monitoring working practices on site, offering guidance and intervening where unsafe behaviour or conditions are identified.
Accidents, Incidents and Near Miss Reporting
All accidents, injuries, incidents and near misses must be reported and recorded. Removal Van Ealing investigates these events to identify root causes and implement corrective actions, such as changes to procedures, additional training or equipment improvements.
We encourage a positive reporting culture, where staff feel able to raise concerns or highlight hazards without fear of blame. Learning from incidents is shared with relevant employees to prevent reoccurrence.
Welfare, Health and Wellbeing
We recognise that removals work can be physically demanding and sometimes stressful. Removal Van Ealing promotes good welfare standards, including access to rest breaks, drinking water and appropriate facilities where available.
Employees are encouraged to look after their physical health, use proper lifting techniques and seek advice if they experience pain or discomfort. We also recognise the importance of mental wellbeing and support open communication about workload, fatigue and work-related stress.
Policy Review and Continuous Improvement
This Health and Safety policy is reviewed regularly to ensure it remains suitable and effective for our operations. Removal Van Ealing is committed to continuous improvement and will adapt its procedures as legislation, industry standards and best practices evolve.
By working together and maintaining high standards of care, we aim to provide safe, reliable and professional removal services throughout our operating area while protecting our staff, customers and the wider community.
